Australian research indicates that young people transitioning from out-of-home care (foster, kinship, and residential) to independence have diminished life outcomes compared with those of the general population (McDowall, 2009; Mendes, Johnson, & Moslehuddin, 2011; Stein, 2012). This report aims to explore and identify the success factors that aid the transition process and to understand the potential barriers that impede young care leavers’ successful postcare outcomes.
